Saint Vincent's bubbly casino in Italy's Alps
Encircled by mountains and once defined by four Roman gates that broke up its long wall, Aosta city is set along the ancient Via delle Gallie, a road from the era of Augustus Ceasar. Entering the modern city, Aosta still breathes a certain Roman air thanks to the numerous buildings and ruins of its conquered past.
Beyond its Romanesque architecture, Aosta is served by a good number of thermal springs. Italian religious expert in mineralogy, Abbot Perret, discovered the therapeutic properties of Aosta's spring water during the 1700s. His study signalled the beginning of the area's thermal tourism trade.
Since then, the small Aostan locality of Saint Vincent has become an elite holiday destination, earning it the appellation of Italy's "Riviera of the Alps". Saint Vincent is especially famous for its casino, a locale of relaxation and entertainment built after the Second World War to lift people's spirits. Indeed, at Saint Vincent's high altitude, visitors can try their luck in the vivacious ambience of Aosta's alpine cradle.
