In Campania Amalfi Sorrento Coast Families and kids
The beauty of the Amalfi Coast is not just for honeymooners and romantic getaways. Here are our travel tips and recommendations for the best family friendly day trips from the Amalfi Coast.

A family vacation on the Amalfi Coast is a memorable experience. Playing on the rocky beaches and in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, exploring historic villages and hiking to waterfalls up in the mountains. Along with our Tips for Enjoying the Amalfi Coast with Children, here are some recommended family friendly day trips on the coastline and nearby in the region of Campania.

Exploring the Gardens of Ravello
If the village of Ravello is not your home base on the Amalfi Coast, this quiet village is an excellent day trip for the family. The town stretches out across a promontory high in the mountains and offers stunning vistas of the Amalfi Coast. Ravello has two exquisite medieval villas with gardens that are fun for the whole family to explore. Let the little ones run down the pathways while you enjoy the panoramic vistas and the beautiful flowers at the Villa Rufolo and the Villa Cimbrone.

Hiking on the Amalfi Coast
The best family friendly hike on the Amalfi Coast starts in the medieval seaside village of Amalfi and takes you high into the Valle dei Mulini – the Valley of the Mills. Along the way you can spot the ruins of the paper mills that once made Amalfi’s famous paper. Pack a picnic and enjoy it along the cool mountain stream before exploring the waterfalls nearby.

A Day in Ancient Pompeii
The ruins of the ancient Roman town of Pompeii located outside Naples are evocative – for older children and adults alike. Because the excavation site is large and can be crowded and hot in the summer, a tour guide is recommended for families. Look for one that can bring the ancient town to life for the younger audience.

Among the Greek Temples in Paestum
If the kids need to burn off some energy, head to the ancient Greek town of Paestum south of the Amalfi Coast. Here the kids can run while the adults enjoy seeing some of the best preserved Greek temples in the world. For lunch, stop at a nearby agriturismo, or farm, that specialize in making the region’s famous Mozzarella di Bufala cheese. Some will allow you to tour the farm and see the water buffalo as well as sample the freshly made cheeses and other products, such as buffalo sausage and salami and yogurt and gelato made with buffalo milk.

Around the Island of Capri
The island of Capri is a fun family day out from the Amalfi Coast. Highlights for the younger ages will be the funicular train ride from the port of Marina Grande up to Capri Town and the chairlift to the island’s highest point at the top of Monte Solaro in Anacapri. Another family friendly activity is a boat tour around the island and a visit to the famous Blue Grotto.
