Summer in Rimini: fun, piadina bread and art
The night-clubs and bars, kiosks and accessibly-priced restaurants attract hundreds to Rimini during the summer months, when the small seaside town is transformed into a true metropolis. Artists and deejays from all over the world flock to the Rimi night-clubs to experience Italy’s most celebrated night-life scene.
Besides fun and night-life, Rimini is also home to cultural features as this once Roman city is home to artistic treasures. Should the weather be bad during your stay, rather than head to the beach you can visit the historic centre of Rimini around Piazza Tre Martiri, the Duomo, Arco di Augusto and the bridge of Tiberio, all still standing after wars and bombardments and locations which must be visited.
Rimini is also a great destination for families with numerous fun-parks, and production of the famous “piadina” flat unleavened bread in the hillsides above the city. The Italian poet, Giovanni Pascoli (1855 - 1912) described piadina as «not only bread, but the national dish of the citizens of Emilio Romagna». The bread was traditionally eaten by poor farmers; its easy, quick recipe is truly unique, and its flavour is enhanced with its combination of hams and cheeses. A local speciality nowadays best enjoyed under the beach umbrellas during a hot summer’s day.
