Traditional Christmas customs will take place in Piazza San Pietro, which also this year will host the traditional Christmas tree, imported from Bressanone on 17 December. On Christmas Eve the pope gives midnight mass, listened to by the whole world.

The thirty-fifth International Exhibition of the 100 Nativity Scenes displays nativity cribs and scenes designed in both Italy and around the world, at the Sala del Bramante in Piazza del Polpolo from 26 November to 6 January. The circus also comes to town, enthralling the little ones.
