The 2011 Ivrea Carnival begins on 6 January, a truly unique historic revocation which culminates the spectacular “battle of the oranges” which is programmed this year for the 7th and 8th of March.

The official opening of the 2011 Ivrea Carnival takes place on 6 January, a unique event tied to an antique, complex ceremony which each year revokes a historic event; the liberation of the city in Medieval times from the tyrannical and cruel baron.

The carnival of Ivrea starts up at the end of February with ceremonies and events in costume from Sunday 20 – 27 February with a rich programme in carnival week (3 – 9 March) which culminates, according to tradition, the famous “battles of the oranges” from 7 – 8 March. The carnival ends on March 9 with the traditional feast of polenta and cod eaten in the piazza.
