On the week-end of 8 – 10 July and 15 – 17 2001, Monteriggioni hosts the traditional Medieval Festival, an event which recalls the culture and traditions of medieval times.

For 21 years now, in the month of July, Monteriggioni is transformed for two consecutive week-ends, discovering the ancient city. The annual medieval festival is held with the unique backdrop of the town in Chianti, which still conserves in tact the stone walls and over 15 towers and 13th century.

The festival features historical re-enactments of two typical medieval events, even though they differ in period and character. On the week-end of 8 - 10 July, the festival will feature a siege of Guelphs and Ghibellines. On the week-end of 15 – 17 July a 16th century battle will be revoked, with gun powder, imperial militia and obscure plots.

Spectators, both adults and children, can attend the historical narrations of the battles, enriched with intrigue and juggling shows, delving into daily medieval life among soldiers and spies, merchants and acrobats, musicians and pilgrims.
