Enjoy cycling routes which unwind around the lakes of Chiusi and Montepulciano in the Val di Chiana, a natural jewel of Tuscany in the province of Siena.

Among the most popular destination with cycling lovers is most certainly Tuscany, famous all over the world for its beautiful landscape.

One of the most suited areas ideal for exploring by bike, is the lakes of Chiusi and Montepulciano in the Val di Chiana, in the province of Siena.

Cyclist can depart from the historic centre of Chiusi, following signs for Chianciano Terme and entering the 326 main road. The route then features a series of ups and downs before proceeding a flat road until Salcheto, where the route turns to Pozzuolo.

After three kilometres, there is a small crossroad where cyclists should turn right, entering a dirt road which leads to Oasi del Lago di Montepulciano. After a break to admire the spectacular natural scenery, the route continues back on the main road towards Pozzuolo.

After having crossed the village, follow signs to Chiusi-Porto-Gioiella and then signs for Binami-Mugnanesi. Coasting the lake, the route proceeds to Gioella and then Vaiano, before proceeding to Chiusi.

Once passed the towers of Beccati and the overpass, cyclists should then turn right, and after one kilometre, turn left back on to the main road going back to the departure point.

The cycling route is of medium difficulty (approx. 45 kilometres) and allows for discovering the banks of the two lakes, the latest evidence of the enormous wetlands which once occupied the area. The routes also offer the chance to admire rare examples of local fauna, such as the Red Herons, Egrets, Glossy Ibis, Ospreys and Black-winged Stilts.
