The 2011 Venice Carnival takes place form 19 February to 8 March; one of the most well-known and popular carnivals in the world.

This year’s Venice carnival will be dedicated to the 150 years of the unity of Italy and also to women, featuring two differences compared to previous years; carnival celebrations will be prolonged to a week-end, with the beginning of the carnival anticipated to 19 February, ending with a silent regatta of rowing boats on the Canal Grande, illuminated by candles.

After the prelude of 19 – 20 February, Venice carnival starts up with the traditional flight of the angel of the bell-tower in Piazza San Marco on Sunday 27 February, featuring a rich programme of events, parties and fancy-dress with shows for adults and children.
